“You’re full of it Cain. Youuusseee a cheat, and you know it. That’s big money for you and your Ministry. That’s what I say meh-son. Big money for you when you feel, and you don’t give the contract to your people.” He kissed his teeth. “Youuusssse a cheat Cain.”
“Well, let’s call it a night sirs,” said Jacob as he rose from his chair. “I have another engagement and I’m running late. Just wanted to stop by.”
I watched as Vernon and the other two men rose from their seats and shook hands.
I shook hands with all the men and arriving at Jacob, he turned away.
“Good night gentlemen,” he said and walked toward a family-size, ruby red, contemporary Jaguar four-by-four.
Vernon ushered me to follow him with a flick of his head. We headed toward the large paved car park that lay on the waterfront.
I looked over as Jacob Cain pulled out of the car park and nodded at Vernon, before driving onto the main road and out of sight.
I would never want to be friends with that man, I thought. And I would never want to work for that guy.
It was a harsh judgement to make and I was taken back by its severity in my mind. But it was everything that lay in the ‘unsaid’ of the conversation.
