Day 241 – The root of racism and its solution (II)…
I was directed to this question on a fellow Christian brother’s FB profile page:
I don’t mean to cause a stir but was there any solid evidence that George Floyd’s tragic death was caused by racism?
I responded:
Hey brother ++++,
Short answer – yes, you could say there’s proof it’s racism and sorry to say, but this question will cause a stir.
The proof is in the Word of God and what He says about humanity as a species.
From the beginning of time, we know that humanity has inherent wickedness built in so deep, it maps our entire flesh.
The wickedness is in our arrogance, disobedience, and rebellion with a “I can do it myself” attitude that extends so far, we believe we can be our own gods, choosing what is right and wrong by ourselves.
This subjective morality or moral relativism will sometimes produce the most dreadful results that the entire world cannot stomach.
One of the many horrific by-products of this selfish, pride-driven, fear-inspired, self-preservation thought-process, is racism.
Because of the Christ-centred movement of Martin Luther King Jr, we were able to see a great deal of transformation of hearts, but this was not due to the human effort.
It was because Reverend Martin Luther King Jr’s movement was Christ-centred.
I personally see the police force like how I would see a prison.
They are under extreme situations that press a person into their self-preservation mode, when they should be choosing Jesus to help them with their struggles.
This pressure will see an institutionalism of racism in the police force and also create gangs in prison that are racially motivated.
Why?
Because the pressure of these extreme situations compels people to depend on their baser instincts of pride and fear, no matter how horrible the consequences of those instincts.
On top of this Biblical proof of the inherent evil within man, I would also suggest that from my experience, there are some people who believe racism doesn’t exist anymore, which can prompt us to think that this tragic situation isn’t racially motivated.
What has happened is violent racism has been sent into hiding.
It’s been replaced with an even tougher form of racism, concealed in jokes and unnecessary comments that cunningly and stealthily fly under the radar as “outright wrong.”
To quote Lord Alfred Tennyson:
“That a lie which is half a truth is ever the blackest of lies; That a lie which is all a lie may be met and fought outright – But a lie which is part a truth is harder matter to fight.”
Racism is concealed and suppressed better now, but it’s still there, making it in many ways more lethal when it boils to the surface as we saw in this situation.
