The pain and shame we don’t want – Video 9
Will we attempt to redeem pride or embrace the new teaching?
Following this month’s newsletter, the seriously unattractive subject I’ve been contemplating is humiliation.
To humiliate is: to reduce (someone) to a lower position in one’s own eyes or others’ eyes : to make (someone) ashamed or embarrassed.
The interesting thing we come to learn in walking with God is that humiliation is a necessary part of death to pride (the flesh).
We know from scripture that God hates pride:
There are six things that the LORD hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.
Proverbs 6:16-19
Pride is something that God wants to destroy in us to make room for a new mind that’s truly free and selflessly loving.
Below is a list of Bible verses about the human heart and the ‘flesh’ otherwise known as PRIDE.
I used to believe that these verses were using the literary device ‘hyperbole’ to hammer home how much we needed God.
Through walking with God via the Holy Spirit’s illumination of the Scriptures and continuing life experiences, I’ve learned that these verses are 100% accurate of the human condition.
God desires to rescue us from PRIDE: a life of selfish ambition and vain conceit.
Although God won’t necessarily humiliate us, He will bring us to situations where humiliation may occur so we learn increasingly to depend on Him and less reliance on ‘self’/ ego/ pride.

There is a way that seemeth right unto a man (pride), but the end thereof are the ways of death
Proverbs 16:25
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding (pride); in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
Proverbs 3:5-6
The heart (pride) is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? “I the Lord search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds.
Jeremiah 17:9-10
The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart (pride) was only evil continually.
Genesis 6:5
For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.
Mark 7:21-23
And when the Lord smelled the pleasing aroma, the Lord said in his heart, “I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the intention of man’s heart is evil from his youth (pride). Neither will I ever again strike down every living creature as I have done.
Genesis 8:21
Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God
Galatians 5:19-21
