The saying “you don’t know what you got till it’s gone” is sadly and gladly one of the more memorable ways that we learn sincere gratitude. It’s not through fun times that we’re taught integrity and wellness. It’s through loss that we’re able to recognise how full we are.
Negativity can come from external, bad influences. But it’s not rooted in them. The more I get to know the humble, lowly, forgiving character of Jesus, the more I recognise that every single negative thought and emotion—without exception—is birthed by the ego; that place of self-envisioned self-importance that exists in every single one of us; that place that has the ability to deceive us into thinking we have absolute control over life’s outcomes.
CS Lewis knew his stuff.
Sharing food with the hungry is not the deepest kind of love. The deepest kind of love is sharing food with the hungry, when we’re just as starved.
Self-preservation is natural. That doesn’t make it good.
