The Garden – A Poem

In April 2017, I wrote this poem for an arts’ project / event that we held at my church. The poem was written during a time when I was taken to a deeper level of understanding of what sacrifice and obedience mean.

The Garden

I sit in the garden with Him

The pain has already begun

How does he stand so very strong?

When fear inspires me to run

I know the truth is coming

A wound so deep and pure

Rejection is the beginning

I must embrace His cure

The pains of the past are on me

Alive in present day

To endure the lashes and my cross

Pride won’t have its say

I look forward to a future

Free of the furnace’s blast

When I will emerge shiny as silver

And completely clean at last
