2020 – Surrendering my Life…Reflecting on 35 Years

4.4.2020.

All I find myself doing these days is spreading the Word of God to anyone who will listen.

Global threats like Corona are an opportunity for people to relinquish the illusion of control and find answers to the deeper questions of life.

If I had an aim for this period of quarantine, I essentially want to be more compassionate, kind, and empathetic.

(9) Bullies

1992 – 1993. Age Nine.

Getting used to a ‘broken home’ was very easy, because my mind automatically adapted to the situation that was beyond my control.

Mental protective mechanisms, coping strategies, and defence tactics were all employed by the survival instincts innate to me. This behaviour can manifest in a variety of ways, but for me, it was about being strong.

My childhood friends moved on this year. Rory became a vicious antagonist, joining up with the tough, older kids in the years above and David left our school to join City of London School.

In this particular year, I recall how my father responded to a school bully who had hounded me for about three years.

I’d learnt from TV how to physically fight this school bully and so he was unable to harm me. In our last ever confrontation, I broke his nose.

This didn’t stop him from getting older children to do his dirty-work.

On one such day, he got a boy two years my senior to attack me.

When my father saw the results of the attack, he flew into a rage.

I never saw what happened outside the school gate.

The news came back to me that my father had hit the child and then hit his father…

Message from Jesus – “Turn back to me. I’m always here to help you.”

Message from the World – “Everyone is against you. Everyone hates you. Friends will betray you. You’ve got to grow physically strong and fight against any threat. No one can be trusted.”
