2020 – Surrendering my Life…Reflecting on 35 Years

The date is 31.3.2020.

We are on the cusp as we enter what is supposed to be the most savage month of the Corona Virus pandemic.

I still don’t feel any fear or anxiety about this situation; a disposition that I believe to be the result of God’s teachings and my life experiences; each of which exposed how powerless I am and therefore led me to look at life’s ‘powerless’ moments with peace.

Situations like:

(i) the criminal charge I once faced where I was looking at 15 years in prison,
(ii) the Cat 3 hurricane I endured,
(iii) the Chikungunya epidemic I lived through (very similar symptoms to Corona),
(iv) the economic recession of 2009 when I was made redundant, and of course,
(iv) the bailiff situation earlier this year (2020)…

Walking with God through life’s savage moments has made me stronger rather than beat me down. It’s even transformed awful situations when I wasn’t a follower of Jesus into powerful real-life parables of Bible teaching now that I am a believer.

1988 – 1989. Age Five.

There were a lot of ‘firsts’ in this year.

It was a time when I first felt favouritism from a teacher; Mrs. Robertson-Kelly bought a Thomas the Tank Engine jigsaw puzzle for the class, but she made it so clear it was for me.

I also recall that in this year, I discovered my attraction to girls. The two prettiest girls in the class were Kate and Amy. I tried to impress Kate whenever I could.

Additionally, this is where I first met my two close childhood friends Rory Barclay and David Corkhill.

David was Caucasian and Rory was a lighter skin complexion than I.

Over the years, we would go on to have theme park adventures at Thorpe Park, Chessington, and Alton Towers, share SNES computer games, and enjoy birthday parties together.

Message from Jesus – “Enjoy being a child.”

Message from the World – “Adapt, learn, survive, compete, compare. Got to impress girls.”
